Sex and the City. . .again?

July 11, 2008

The box office numbers for ‘Sex and the City: The Movie’ were so impressive for a romantic comedy that the question had to be asked of HBO execs who were in Beverly Hills today to present their fall lineup to the TV Critics Association: Will there be more adventures with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon)?

“There is enormous interest by Warner Bros.’ New Line to do another ‘Sex and the City’ movie,” Michael Lombardo, president of programming group and West Coast operations, commented. “They are trying with our help to put that together. When that happens … how long in between, I can’t say. I think everybody associated with the project was heartened by the enthusiasm from the fans. There is a lot of energy going into thinking about ‘Sex and the City.'”

Whether or not there is another ‘Sex and the City’ film, Sarah Jessica will continue her relationship with the premium cable channel as she is currently executive producing a new series for the network.

As to whether or not “The Sopranos” may follow suit and become a motion picture now that the series has wrapped remains to be seen. “Whatever David Chase [creator/executive producer of the show] wants to do is up to David. If David wants to do it, we would be delighted to explore that,” said Richard Pepler, HBO co-president.
